On May 12th, 2018, at the Technical College of Technology of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the General Department of Vocational Education in collaboration with the Vietnam British Council held the public announcement of the BCTECH’s evaluation results according to the UK quality standards. Attending the meeting was Mr. Dang Minh Thong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; Mr. Duong Minh Tuan, Deputy Head of the delegation of the provincial People’s Deputies; Mr. Bui Dang Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee of the National Assembly; Mr. Do Nang Khanh, Deputy Director General of Department of Vocational Education; Mr. Pham Vu Quoc Binh, Director of the Department of Quality Assurance; Jon Glendinning, Director of British Council HCMC, Representatives of departments, unions, provincial and district people’s committees, vocational education institutions and schools in the province.

From 13 to 17 March 2018, BCTECH was one of the first two colleges in the nation to be selected for evaluation based on “the Further education and skills inspection” of Ofsted. This is the basis for determining how well the school is in relation to international standards, based on this to define the plan for improving the capacity of staff, teachers, studying the UK experience to develop the system in order to better the education quality system.
Pham Vu Quoc Binh, Director of Vocational Training Accreditation Agency, said that the evaluation of quality for school according to British standard complies with four criteria: Leadership and Management Effectiveness; Teaching, learning and evaluation quality; Personal development, behavior and benefit; Learners’ Study results. There are 4 grades: Outstanding, Good, require improvement and inadequate. To conduct a quality assessment at BCTECH, Angela Whiteside, senior expert in the field of quality assessment of UK institutions conducted interviews, surveys at the school and enterprises, online surveys, unannounced class observation, research documents … the result is that BCTECH is graded as good of overall efficiency. In particular, the effectiveness of leadership and management was rated excellent; the remaining criteria are well appreciated.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bui Dang Dung, Vice Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly, highly appreciated the achievements of the school in recent years, especially the training associated with the business, career solution, vocational counseling, behavioral education, soft skills, labor safety and successful application of 5S in the school. Bui Dang Dung believes BCTECH will soon achieve excellent results in three remaining criteria and become the leading regional and international education provider.

Mr. Dang Minh Thong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee praised the achievements of BCTECH teachers and students, in addition, encourage school to continuously implement the principle of fundamental and comprehensive renewal of education and training, constantly improving the quality of teachers; well forecast the demand for labor resources, diversify the profession to suit the practical requirements; maintain and promote the achieved results, aim to be the excellent evaluation of Ofsted’s quality standard.
